Kuenta

Two-Channel VideoHD Video. Loop by Jorge Lozano and Alexandra GelisIt recreates the symbolic elements of La Guajira, a Colombia region where the wind and the movement of the clouds are always unfolding creating a landscape where the light is always changing.

Combining recordings of daily activity with interventions by Jorge and Alexandra to create a total environment that envelopes the audience in images and sounds, Kuenta also invites the viewer to experience the work directly, and in their own personal way. Kuenta explores the phenomena of sense perception as an avenue to self-knowledge and the disclosure of consciousness trough spontaneous associations.

The Wayuu are known as the people of the sun, sand, and wind. They are located in the arid Guajira Peninsula in northern Colombia and northwest Venezuela. The Wayúu language is part of the Arawak family and is called Wayuunaiki. One of the most important and characteristic ancestral and cultural values is weaving. Through the use of interventions and casual travel recordings, the artists weave an unfolding and decentered narrative, an assemblage of intensities, endless doing and un-doings in this land of constant sun, sand and wind. Kuenta is part of a series of travelogues that deal with landscapes and what is hidden beneath these landscapes.
